women of buffy

I decided to start off my series of Buffy related posts with a little who's who for the women of the show. Just another reason to post some pictures of pretty ladies.

This is Buffy. She is a kick ass vampire slayer. She died twice. Did I mention she kicks ass? Cause she does.

This is Willow. She's Buffy's book smart best friend. She's also a witch. And a lesbian, which is only one of the many many reasons why I love her so.

This is Tara. Like Willow, a lesbian witch and Willow's girlfriend starting in season 4. She's very shy her first season but definitely comes into her own. After Willow, I thinj she had the best character development. Also, my girlfriend is in love with her. For serious.

This is Anya. Ex-Demon who's powers were took from her after messing up a vengeance spell. So she gets stuck stuck in this world as a mortal. Her confusion on any recent reference and the inability to understand sarcasm brings on many laughs.

This is Faith. She is a bad-ass slayer gone very bad and then good again. I love her. The end.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

I was a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan when the series originally ran. I loved this show so much that I used to tape it on VHS and re-watch them with my friends. I probably still have said tapes at my parents house...

The show ended 7 years ago and somehow I never saw all the episodes of the final season. The final season aired during my first year of college and quickly got bumped down on the list of priorities in life. Funny how things like that happen.

Well, a few weeks ago it got bumped up to a main priority for me. GF never watched (!) except for random episodes her younger sisters watched, but I'm under the impression they watched for Angel, therefore GF wasn't too interested, hehe. Anyway, GF and I decided to watch from the beginning. It was a rough few weeks and I was (jokingly) yelled at several times for not warning (spoiling) things to GF that she felt like she needed warnings for.

Expect a string of Buffy posts, which will most likely contain spoilers. But if you haven't seen it yet, then I'm guessing you probably won't, but really... you should.

pride

The month of June is the offical month of Pride. I was interested in attending Pride events in 3 seperate cities: Cleveland, New York City, and Knoxville, TN.

Cleveland because that's my hometown and was the very first Pride I ever attended, at age 19 and all by myself. I was scared out of my mind and only stayed long enough to walk around the festival once. I was only out to my closest of friends at that time. I wanted to go back and experience it again

NYC, because well, it's New York fucking City, and I wanna be at the gay mecca when Pridefest rolls in. It doesn't hurt that one of my bestest friends lives in the city. She in fact ran in this year's (and last year's) annual Pride Run. In all the times I've visited NYC somehow it's never been on Pride weekend. This needs to change.

I currently reside in K-ville, so that was a no brainer to attend. I went last year and well... it definitely left something to be desired. In hindsight I should have stuck around for the drag show performance, cause the performers from our local club is amazing. Shout out to Club XYZ! Best female impersonators I've ever seen!

It ended up that all 3 Pride's were on the same weekend. Well, I can't be in 3 places at once and also with little money, the first 2 were out of the question.

When Pride day came along I was all set to go. I really was, but then a few teammates on my softball team asked if I wanted to head out to a bar that afternoon to watch the US World Cup game. I thought, well that's pretty gay, so I can celebrate that way and head over to the festival afterwards. I'm sure you can see where this is going. I did not stop by due to my short lived depression from the US loss.

That evening was the softball team cookout and end of season celebration. So instead of hitting up bars which were packed due to everyone going out that night, I spent my evening (and into late night) cooking out with my team, playing beer pong, and having a gay ole time. I don't think that's too shabby a way to celebrate Pride.

AMC recasts Bianca.

I'm a daughter, granddaughter, and sister of soap opera watchers. So naturally growing up, I was one too. One of my mother's "soaps" is All My Children, I grew up specifically watching this show. I remember the episode when Bianca came out. This storyline was also close to home for me. I always enjoyed the younger storylines since I was a younger viewer, but when Bianca came out as a teenage lesbian I was 16 years old closeted lesbian.

I watched and followed all her crazy storylines for years, though my adolescence and into my adulthood. I have my favorites (relationships with Maggie and later Reese) and my not so favorites (the rape/pregnancy and Zarf/Zoey bullshit). Whenever I hear about Bianca's return to Pine Valley I always make sure to turn in.

When the filming of All My Children was moved to Los Angeles recently,  there was speculation that Eden Regal would return as Bianca, since the actress lives there. But alas, Eden was hired on another soap and the thought of Bianca's return quickly went away.

I know re-casts happen often in soaps, but I truly thought of Bianca as one of the un-re-castables. Apparently I was wrong.

We last saw Bianca returning to Paris after patching things up with Reese who she recently married in the first same sex wedding in daytime.

I'm not aware of the circumstances of Bianca's return. But I will give it a chance. There are few gay/lesbian characters on tv, so I have to get my fix when I can. At least they look similar...

And how did I not know this existed? Amazing. Pratt Falls is a blog/webseries that is pro Bianca and discusses the failure of a specific writer at All My Children in regards to the Bianca storylines. Check it out if your a Bianca fan!

rough weekend

Saturdays are my full day to do whatever I want and that's usually sleeping in til 10 or 11. Yes, that's sleeping in. After GF left around 8 am for weekly volunteering, I fell back asleep as usual. I woke up with my phone ringing at about 8:45. I sleepily grabbed my phone and saw GF's name on the screen, although when I answered the phone, a man started speaking. The next hour flew by. I was told GF had an "accident" and was being sent to the ER. I had to ask several times where the hospital was where she was being sent, since there are at least 5 that come to mind in the area. Once I raced to the hospital, parked my car in the appropriate lot, I spent about 10 minutes running around the huge complex because I couldn't figure out where the entrance to the ER was. I walk in, see GF bent over holding her face. As I approach she looked up to me with teary eyes (note: in the almost 7 years together I can count the times I've seen her cry on 1 hand) and told me what happened as she tried to keep herself from crying.

While riding in a golf cart the driver ran into a tree. Let me repeat, the driver drove into a TREE! Really?! Apparently he wasn't looking and since GF was in the back holding up a towel to keep from getting wet from all the rain the night before, she didn't see the tree either. Her face when right into a metal bar on the golf cart, specifically her nose.

After an exam and x-rays, it was confirmed that she broke her nose. She was given instructions and a doctor to call for a follow up and we left. As we left we realized this hospital really sucked. Not once did they ask or check into the fact that she could have had a head injury. She didn't present with any head injury symptoms, but still, if you're coming into the ER I expect they would check things like that.

So we woke up every hour last night to ensure she was okay, just in case she DID have a head injury.

Luckily she's in little pain and is mainly upset about the medical bills and the possibility of having her nose crooked. She states that her nose is her favorite feature and it will look terrible if it's crooked. Even when she called her mom, one of the first things said was "but you're nose is so cute." The swelling has gone down and her eyes are blackening. She really wants to get "raccoon eyes," she says that "if you're going to break your nose, you better get raccoon eyes, it's the only thing that makes it worth it."

Yeah, that's my GF for you.

All seriousness, this was terrifying. It really scared me and I kept it together until long after we got home from the hospital. Yes, it was just a "tragic cart accident" as she calls it, but I never want to get a call like that again.

better safe than sorry

Last weekend I had a night out on the town with some (straight) friends. We had good times, good drinks, good laughs, and good conversation. One convo revolved around the discussion of a previous night out.

On this night a friend and I were out drinking and dancing with some of her friends when a group of (very nice) men came in celebrating a 21st birthday. My friend is very outgoing so of course we ended up talking to them, buying the birthday boy some drinks, just having a good time. Well, the birthday boy decided to take a liking to me even though it was mentioned that I had a "significant other", we danced and talked and when it was obvious that he was going to continue to hit on me I made my way to having a conversation elsewhere.

Back to last weekend, I was asked why I didn't just tell the birthday boy that I was a big lesbian. I responded very seriously that I didn't want myself or anyone else getting physically hurt. My friends thought this was ridiculous and there would be no way someone would freak out about someone being gay so much they would become violent.  I disagree. I currently live in the south where the gays aren't super loved (one can be fired based on sexual orientation in this state with no legal repercussions), and although I live in a "city" which is more likely to be liberal than a rural community and a college town, I still do not think it's safe to tell a complete stranger that I'm gay, especially in a drinking environment.

You just never know how people may react. Just this past New Year's in Buffalo, NY a woman was stabbed in the eye outside a gay club while her and her friends were called horrible names. And that was in a city in a liberal state.

Do you think I'm being too cautious? I'm sure in some occasions I would maybe feel comfortable telling a stranger this information, but if I'm not comfortable, why should I risk it? I think it's better to be safe than sorry.

heroes vs. villians

I love reality tv, probably one of the biggest guiltiest pleasures ever. When Survivor first came out I resisted so hard to not watch or enjoy it. Since I was a huge Real World viewer, I felt RW was the first real reality show and Survivor was taking this title from them.

Well, RW got trashy (although this season in DC isn't as terrible as it has been) so I got into Survivor, hard core into it. This season is the 20th(!!) season of Survivor and is being dubbed "Heroes vs Villians", bringing back all our loved players and the ones we love to hate.

And boy did they deliver. They brought many of my favs and some of my most hated. My absolute favorite is Stephanie. She has been in two previous seasons of Survivor and is best known for outlasting all her original tribe mates in her first season. I think that's fucking hard core. She is most definitely one of the most popular players to have ever played. The only thing that would make her awesome is if she liked the ladies, but alas we can't get all the hard core chicks. Oh, AND she played lacrosse in college. Kick ass for sure!! Take a look at those arms...

Stop reading now if you don't want to know what happened last week.

This past week, Stephanie was targeted to be voted out after the "Heroes" lost yet another immunity challenge. The angle against her was that she was the remaining member of her original tribe when she was first on the show... um, like I stated previously, that makes her hard core and awesome. But yet others did not see it that way and Stephanie was voted out.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. I will of course continue watching even though though my fav is gone, but I don't know who I should root for. Another of my fav ladies is on as well, but she was against my Stephanie, so I'm torn if I should root for her...
